Meet Your Course Instructor

Jaspreet Kaur

Jaspreet Kaur, better known as Behind the Netra for her poetry, is an award-winning Spoken Word Poet from East London. She has spent the last five years teaching History, Sociology and Politics in secondary schools across London. Jaspreet actively works with national governments, corporations and charities alike, such as TED, the UN and women’s networks across the UK, using her poetry and writing to inspire and drive social change. Her TED talk, “How Poetry Saved My Life” is one of many examples of this. In 2020, Jaspreet was awarded the Ben Pimlott Writer in Residency at Birkbeck University as a Research Fellow with the Politics Department. She is currently working on her first book, a narrative non-fiction exploring what it means to be a Brown, British Feminist in this new decade.

  • Is this course for beginners?

    Yes! Absolutely. Previous poetry writing experience isn't required. This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of poetry.

  • When are the guided sessions? If I miss the live guided lesson what do I do?

    The live guided sessions will begin from Wednesday 12th of August and take place at 6pm (GMT). If you miss the session, not to worry! The courses are recorded so you can rewatch the lessons at your leisure.

  • Which charitable cause will the proceeds be donated to?
